Individual psychotherapy and couples/marital therapy. Working with individuals, my areas of practice include depression, anxiety disorders (panic disorder, agoraphobia, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, PTSD), anger management, pain management, grief/loss, self-esteem/self image, divorce/separation, habit change/impulse control (e.g., weight loss/management, gambling, “sexual addiction”, “internet addiction”), assertiveness/social skills, substance abuse (e.g., cigarettes, alcohol, other drugs), abuse (emotional, physical, sexual), stress management, lifestyle change/life coaching and workplace issues (e.g., stress, burnout, harassment).
I believe the role of a psychologist is to facilitate the process of coping with and/or overcoming personal concerns and life challenges and assisting in personal growth. I believe strongly in self-determination and encourage increased self-awareness/mindfulness. My approach/philosophy to assisting individuals includes a combination of respect, empathy, support and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT). CBT assists individuals in recognising and learning to modify the interactions between their beliefs/thoughts, emotions, behaviours and physiological/bodily responses. This approach has been shown to be effective with a wide range of concerns but especially depression, anxiety and anger management.
