Carewest Operational Stress Injury Clinic
Program
Located in Market Mall in northwest Calgary, the Carewest Operational Stress Injury Clinic opened its doors in 2006. It is funded by Veterans Affairs Canada to help veterans, current and former Canadian Forces members, and members of the RCMP suffering from an operational stress injury (OSI) as a result of service-related psychological injury and traumatic event exposure.
The OSI Clinic offers specialized outpatient assessment and treatment provided by a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, and nurse clinicians. The team works within a model of collaborative interprofessional care, which means that a client will likely have more than one discipline involved throughout their assessment and treatment process. Treatment services include:
- Psychotherapy and counselling
- Medication treatment
- Skills training (for example, anger, pain and stress management skills)
- Group therapy and educational sessions
- Relationship counselling
- Consultation and professional education to community professionals
The OSI Clinic collaborates with other health providers and services to ensure that care is comprehensive and coordinated. Services are also available at our satellite clinic in Red Deer and via Telehealth.
The Carewest OSI Clinic accepts referrals from Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), the RCMP, and the Canadian Forces.
