Youth Addictions

The George Hull Centre for Children and Families is an accredited children’s mental health centre serving children and youth, from birth to age 18, and their families. Mental health services include * prevention and early intervention * outpatient treatment for school-aged children * residential treatment * substance abuse treatment * specialized school programs. * preschool speech and language services * Ontario Early Years Centre programs. There are no fees for service. The Centre is formally affiliated with the University of Toronto, and serves as a teaching centre for students in the disciplines of medicine, psychiatry, social work, child & youth work, speech & language, and early childhood education.

We understand that everyone has their own life stories with challenges and transitions. We offer you a compassionate, warm, caring, and accepting, confidential space to meet your and/or a loved one"s needs. We offer in-person and distance counselling via phone or secure video chat. Offering individual, couple’s and family counselling, workshops and group therapy. We enhance and promote your well-being through a variety of therapeutic approaches, uniquely designing treatment plans that improve your overall well-being. The team consists of Doctors; Nurse Practitioners; Registered Nurses; Occupational Therapists; a Health Promoter; Registered Dietitians; Mental Health Counsellors.Area residents have access to GBFHT"s services by getting a referral from their GBFHT Family Physician (only patients of affiliated physicians may be referred). Family physician referral also required for most clinics. GBFHT is the regional Diabetes Education Centre (DEC). All patients with diabetes regardless of who their family doctor is may be seen at the DEC.Services include:Counselling: Individual and marital counselling available, including child and youth mental health counsellors for short-term mental healthcare. Patients 16 years and under can be helped with anxiety, depression, anger, acting out, conflicts with parents/siblings, addictions, as well as problems with school and socialization. Mental Health Counselling

Offers group counselling for children affected by domestic violence. Also provides support groups for mothers who experience violence or abusive situations and follow-up support for women leaving the shelter.

Adult Addictions

The Gestalt Institute of Toronto is one of the oldest established psychotherapy training schools in Canada. We were established in 1973 as a center for some of the leading Gestalt practitioners of the day, including Lore Perls and Isadore From. In addition to the training of psychotherapists we have a tradition of providing one of the most challenging levels of personal growth and development workshops and ongoing groups. Our commitment to experiential learning means that our graduates have embodied the theory and approach in their lives as well as their work. Over and over we hear from our students and participants: I have never connected more deeply to others, I now can be myself within a group, or I have found my honest voice… In June 2014 we became the first psychotherapy institute in Ontario to be recognized by the newly established College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) as addressing all of the required criteria for training. The GIT continues to hold its own on the international scale with the quality of training as well as its association with leading international Gestalt trainers. Gestalt therapy today is vital and expanding throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas with schools in Scandinavia, Russia, Great Britain, France, Germany, Central and South America, Tibet, China as well as Canada and the US. The GIT is part of a growing international family committed to the leading edge in humanistic psychotherapy training based in neuroscience and quality based research, dedicated to the movement from behavioural and cognitive focus to experiential, relational, embodied and field approach. Our students come from backgrounds as varied as the arts and information technology, education, occupational therapy, social work, bodywork and yoga. Often they have always known that they flourished in the experiential approach or they seek to balance their academic strengths with embodied knowledge. I"m typically relaxed and conversational and love having conversations that get to the heart of the matter. You could say I specialize in getting people "unstuck" from their current way of thinking about and dealing with issues, through the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) skills and strategies. I love asking thoughtful questions and re-framing your situation so you can approach it in ways you haven"t considered before. We then create a practical plan that gets to the root of issues and ensures you have what you need to succeed. I"m a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with a Masters Degree (MA) from Wilfrid Laurier University. I have extensive world-class training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. From my training in marriage and family therapy I also bring a deep understanding of how relationships can impact our lives from childhood into adulthood. I"m not afraid to provide direction and honest thoughts when it"s needed, but strive to do it in a way that respects your values. Addiction Treatment

Functions as a withdrawal management and problematic alcohol/substance use treatment centre Offers a 28-day land-based program in an eight-bed co-ed residential treatment facility (also offers two detoxification beds) Addresses the needs of an individual"s spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional health and well-being Assists individual to gain an understanding of how abuse, relationship dynamics, problematic alcohol and substance use issues, self-destructive behavior and family violence affects their life Supports individual through a journey of self and includes components such as detoxification, stabilization, introductions to food, exercise, and cultural activities and healing practicesServices and programs include but are not limited to: Assessment and treatment planning Medically-supervised detoxification Individual/group counselling Nutrition information and guidance Cultural/recreational activities such as fishing, trapping, snowshoeing, and medicine picking Health services Aftercare planning and follow-up Relapse prevention
