Youth Addictions

The Ottawa Hospital has a variety of mental health services which include inpatient and outpatient programs (including first episode psychosis, eating disorders) as well as emergency mental health services through the Emergency Room.

Community Mental Health Centers

Short-term individual out-patient psychiatric care is provided to patients seen and discharged from the psychiatric emergency service of the Ottawa Hospital or from the in-patient psychiatric unit acute day hospital programs at each campus for these patients should they require more intensive therapy the Ottawa Hospital out-patient psychiatric services also see patients with chronic medical illness who are referred by Ottawa Hospital specialist physicians using a multi-disciplinary approach

In person crisis services

Services to people who have suffered sexual assault, sexual exploitation, dating violence or intimate partner violence within the past six monthsProgram based on privacy, confidentiality and consent based in a hospital setting medical examination collection of forensic evidence initial and serial documentation of injuries, photography and body mapping crisis intervention sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing pregnancy testing HIV post exposure prophylaxis (PEP) preventative vaccinations and prescriptions short-term follow-up community based or professional referrals for ongoing and/or collaborative care

Community Mental Health Centers

Program offers screening and /or assessment for psychotic disorders by a multidisciplinary team Education, support and outpatient care are also offered for both patient and family for an up-to-three-year period depending on the individual, and on the needs of the familyCare includes: family-focused case management medical interventions group and family therapy inpatient care is available as indicated psychological or social work assessments are also available as indicated

Support Groups

In-patient support with: Understanding and speaking after a stroke or other brain injury Understanding, remembering, and thinking after a brain injury Communicating with others because of a progressive neurological disease such as Parkinson"s Disease, ALS, or Alzheimer"s Swallowing food and/or liquid (Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS) and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), if required) Speech and/or swallowing because of head and neck cancer and other cancers Speaking and/or swallowing problems associated with tracheotomy tubesOut-patient clinics: Augmentative Communication and Writing Service (Rehabilitation Centre) Modified Barium Swallow Study Clinics (General Campus) Nu Voice Club of Ottawa (General Campus/Regional Cancer Centre)

In person crisis services

COVID-19 (15 October 2021): Program is still running, but with some restrictions because of the COVID-19 situation.Community Crisis Bed Program suspended until further noticeCommunity program under the Ottawa Hospital Mental Health Program Responds to calls from individuals, family members, and professionals in the community, providing support for mental health crises through assessment, short-term intervention, links to community supports, and liaison with other health and social service providers. Assistance and support is given over the telephone as well as in an individuals" own home environment.Community Crisis Bed Program: Voluntary, community-based alternative for people experiencing mental health crises who do not require inpatient hospitalization, but who would benefit from access to temporary accommodation in a supportive environment. Provides individuals with an opportunity to initiate steps to resolve their crisis through problem solving, symptom stabilization, and links to community supports. Serious mental health problems could include suicidal ideation, situational crises, psychosis, and severe depression or anxiety, not needing immediate medical attention.

Support Groups

Virtual support group for people anticipating or coping with the loss of a pet provides information on subjects related to pet loss through informative lectures and provide access to an extensive list of resource materials lists of suggested readings can be obtained through a veterinarian or at the meetingsA list of referrals from several professionals in the community is available for those who need more personal and in-depth help in coping with the feelings of loss. Each of these people have expressed a special interest in providing compassionate support and counselling for people coping with grief over the loss of a pet.

Youth Addictions

Private practice in Ottawa providing treatment for families and training for professionals in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Group comprised of eight psychologists and a psychiatrist. Services include: * CBT for anxiety and mood disorders. * Acceptance/commitment therapy * Adult and child services, couples and families * Diagnostic interviewing and psychological testing * Consultation and training * Individual therapy * Group therapy: CBT groups for Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorders, ADHD; DBT groups for emotion regulation and interpersonal difficulties. * Availability of virtual reality technology to treat phobias (e.g. fear of flying, spiders, snakes, cats, dogs, etc) * Intensive assessment for adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
